Retired as a Certified Quality Engineer in 2009, now working as an A&P/IA privately, Barry became an A&P in 2013 and an IA in 2019. He received his private pilot certificate in 2006 and purchased a Piper Cherokee in 2007.
As the owner, Barry flew the Cherokee to and from New Mexico and did a lot of flying in New Mexico and Colorado while he and his wife lived there. He worked at Bode Aviation in Albuquerque and has experience on various aircraft including Piper, Cessna, Mooney, Beech, King Air and Pilatus PC12s.
Barry also works on EAA's B17 and was the traveling mechanic for the 2 Ford Trimotors. He has flown over 100 EAA Young Eagle flights and was the Young Eagle coordinator for Chapter 179 in Albuquerque, NM. He has built a Zenith Cruzer (N673BK) which is currently at KCQX.

Before retiring, Shelia worked at the Federal Aviation Administration as the National Aviation and Space Education Program Manager and before that she was the President and CEO at Revere Aviation Inc., located at Beverly Municipal Airport.
She co-owns a Piper Archer, and she is a private Single Engine Land, Multi Engine, instrument rated Pilot.
Shelia received numerous awards including the Transportation, Meritorious Achievement Award, Secretary Norman Y Mineta;
U.S. Department of Transportation, Silver Medal, Secretary Mary E Peters, National Coalition of Aviation Space Education, Dr Mervin K Strickler Leadership Award and Crown Circle Award and Aero Club of New England, Honored Member Award.
Sherry Grobstein is a retired electrical engineer who has been flying since 1970.
She has owned a Cessna 120, Cessna 150, Cessna Hawk XP and now flies an RV-10 that she built with her partner, Richard Dupee who helps out with the bi-annual slide show and supports other CAPA audio-visual efforts.


A graduate of Purdue University and retired Naval aviator, Lucy Young retired from American Airlines in 2019.
She now flies part-time for Cape Air on the C-402.
In addition to CAPA, Lucy is also a member of Cape Cod Aero club, EAA, and Women Military Aviators.
Arlene Myers Alexander, an acupuncturist by profession, started flying in 1997, always having had an interest in flying. Her Aunt Betty left a bit of surprise money and Arlene realized her dream.
She is a Certified Flight Instructor and towed advertising banners for 13 years as a weekend job. She has owned a Cessna Hawk XP since 2004 which she and her husband, Jack, restored.
Jack and Arlene are active in several flying organizations and Arlene is currently a Director of the New England Section of the 99’s Women Pilots. Here she is with her Cessna R172K Hawk.


Carol has been married to Barry for almost 55 years. Now retired, Carol was a former CPA and a Medical Practice Administrator.
Carol has been flying with Barry since he got his pilot’s certificate in 2006. She’s proficient at assembling and disassembling lighter than aircraft-hot air balloons as she worked on the Levity hot air balloon crew in Albuquerque. She also operated the radios for that crew and participated in numerous balloon rallies.
Carol was very active in EAA chapter 179 in Albuquerque as helper in Young Eagles events and the annual Land of Enchantment Fly In. She has taken several pinch hitter courses for airplanes as well as attended numerous FAA safety seminars.
Carol helps with the navigation for VFR flights when flying with Barry.
John has been flying since 1974. He retired from a 27-year career with the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller. After retirement, he flew charters for a 135 operator in the Northeast and the Caribbean. He is a founding member and frequent contributor to Pilotworkshops.com. He is also an active flight instructor on the Cape. He and his wife are living the dream at Falmouth Airpark where he is building an RV9A.


Jack Alexander was the plant propagator at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University for 40 years, and he retired in 2016.
He began flying for fun and got his license in 1990. He owned a Cessna 172 for many years and currently owns a restored vintage 1940 J4A Piper Cub.
Jack is active in several flying organizations and is currently Vice President of the EAA Chapter 51.
Jack enjoys flying with his pilot wife, Arlene.
Patrick McNamara retired from a 32-year military career as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force in 2010. He subsequently worked as a US Air Force & US Space Force civil servant as a Quality Assurance Specialist, (6 Space Warning Squadron) Cape Cod Space Force Station, MA until July 2021.
Patrick began flying in 1979 and completed his solo in 1979. He obtained his Federal Aviation Administration Instrument rating in 2010 and currently owns a Cessna 172. Patrick has over 1,100 hours of Pilot In Command time.
He started volunteering as a United States Coast Guard Auxiliary member in 2012. He was appointed as the USCG Northeast District - Northern Region AuxiliaryAviation Coordination Officer (AAC) and serves as the primary link between the Coast Guard Air Station Auxiliary Liaison Officer and Auxiliary members. After completing all mandatory training, he is a qualified Auxiliary Aviation First Pilot.
Patrick has volunteered over 300 hours towards Auxiliary flying missions. On 12 May 2026, he received the USCG Auxiliary Medal of Operational Merit for skillfully landing a USCG Auxiliary Facility (Cessna 172) after a complete engine failure.
Patrick, an Eagle Scout, has always been a very active volunteer, to include the Boy Scouts of America, Otis Civilian Advisory Council and the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation. Patrick and his wife love traveling and visiting air museums all over the world.


Erica Waasdorp, a fundraiser, author, presenter by trade, manages the weekly CAPA Newsletter, helps with scholarships and other activities.
She loves traveling with her husband Patrick and while she's not a pilot, she helps with the radio.
Phil enjoys flying his helicopter all around Capecod and New England. He volunteers selling raffle tickets during the monthly CAPA meetings to support the scholarship fund. Phil also donates Helicopter rides for numerous charities on the Cape


Rene retired as an executive in a high-tech company. His first solo was at Chatham Airport in 1994. In his 30 years of flying he has flown over 2,600 hours, mainly in his Mooney M20J he owned since 1997. Rene is an instrument rated private pilot, and he has been a CAPA member since 2012. He also enjoys traveling, skiing, hiking and boating.
